Haight/Ashbury- the hippie area..well not so much anymore but you see some druggies/rastas here. Great place for eclectic shopping, there are alot of consignment stores with good buys mixed in with rare duds that are kinda expensive. The area is very chill and local.
North Beach- Basically our little italy and ton of good restaurants and cafes to go to, there is also washington park which alot of people just chill on the grass..but its probably gonna be foggy and cold so don't do that.
Chinatown- self explanatory, you can find many cheap trinkets and cheap eats here. There is a fortune cookie factory that you can visit which is very cool
Along embarcadero- the piers (pier 39/fishermans wharf), more touristy but there is the ferry building which has a marketplace and cool restaurants.
Union- boutique store shopping, can be pricey.
Union Square-main shopping area, from luxury brands to department stores. What to do with one day in San Francisco?
Do not waste your time at fisherman's wharf or pier 39 nothing but tourist traps full of overpriced junk and boring food.
Explore Chinatown and Northbeach two of the most interesting and eclectic neighborhoods in the city. Take a bus to the top of telegraph hill for a great view of the city from either the park or the top of Coit tower. Walk down the telegraph hill steps on the east side of the hill. Then walk down the Embarcadero to the Ferry Building [farmers market there on Saturday]. This will give you an overview of the city and the chance to have some great food and see a lot of the city while avoiding the crowds.
Head to the Ferry Bldg. The have a great farmer's market along with some interesting other items. Go inside the Ferry Bldg and explore the food shops. They are local and really great. I love the italian jelly donuts! Then grab a ferry to Sausalito, get a view of the city from the bay for far less than the tourist fleet, get off in Sausalito and explore the shops. Take the ferry back to SF when you are doneWhat to do with one day in San Francisco?
Should definitely go to Fisherman's Wharf and check out Pier 39. Its fairly cool and a good place to eat. I would also advise you to go to Haight Street. Its like no where else i've been especially when its busy on a weekend. Loads of cool clothes shops that you won't find anywhere else. Wouldn't really bother going to Union Square or Market Street, even though they are really nice they are just like any other shopping districts in America with Macys, American Eagle etc... nothing really new here. I know its a given but if its your first time going to San Francisco you really should go to the Golden Gate Bridge. Well worth your time and its not too far from Haight Street or The Wharf.
Good Luck!
San Fran is one of my favorite day trips from las vegas . Fisherman's wharf is fun and has great places to eat.. if you get off at powell st theres a info center when u get off the bart .. the westin mall is cool place to shop and grab a bite to eat. and a few blocks up is china town and around 4 th st and powell theres the modern art museum... you can buy passes at the info center for one day up to a month and ride trolley's cable cars and the bus not to mention maps of everything you might want to see or do . I've never been yet but the Japanese tea house and garden at golden gate park is suppose to be nice ! lots to see and do .have fun...!What to do with one day in San Francisco?
Golden Gate Bridge, Palace of Fine Arts, Lombard St, Pier 39 (though personally not much to me) SF Downtown to befriend some homeless.
Outside of SF: Napa Valley, Angel Island, Pacifica, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Oakland to befriend some gang bangers.
You still got a whole morning go about SF before watching the Jets upset the Niners (heh heh heh...)
I just went- I love SF!!! Definitely take a trolley to Fishermans Wharf, theres lots to do there (including the aquaium.) And then- the must see is Alcatraz and a bay cruise (which you can get from the Wharf.) Also, stop by and see the seals! It's a great city- if you have time go to Lombard Street too!
Go to Pier 39. I've been there like 1000000000 times since I live 45 minutes away. And I still find something new and exciting there.
