Im looking into coming down to San Diego for a few days. Im from San Francisco.
I really want to check out a Padres game! (I hear Petco Park is really nice!!)
What are some other things to do in San Diego during the day? (Game is most likely going to be a night game so looking for things to do during the day) Ive been to Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. What are some other things to see and do?
How the public transit system in San Diego? Is it reliable? I wont be renting a car, and most likely I will be flying down.Things to do during the day in San Diego?
Balboa Park is the largest urban cultural park in the country. You can get a park passport which allows you entry to a dozen museums.

My favorite museum in the park is the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. It has some of the largest model layouts in the world. It is really awesome and a real hidden gem. http://www.sdmrm.org/
Other attractions in the park are the Air and Space Museum, Ruben H. Fleet Science Center, the Natural History Museum, the Automotive Museum, the Hall of Champions, the Botanical Gardens, and the largest outdoor pipe organ in the world (free concerts on Sunday).
You also can take the trolley from Downtown to Old Town. There is a state park there that recreates life in the Mexican and early American periods of 1821 to 1872. There are also a lot of restaurants in the area. Pizza Bella has the best pizza in town as well as homemade Italian food.

The USS Midway is an aircraft carrier turned into a museum and is near Petco Park.

Seaport Village is also on the waterfront.

Also nearby is Kansas City BBQ. It's where they filmed the bar scene in Top Gun.

Mission and Pacific Beach are your best bet for fun in the sun. Belmont Park has a vintage wooden roller coaster (one of two remaining seaside coasters on the west coast) as well as other rides. There is a boardwalk that runs the entire 3 mile length of both beaches. It's a great place to rent a bike or skates. To get there by mass transit, take the trolley to the Old Town Transit Center and transfer to the #8 bus

As far as mass transit is concerned, the airport is a short bus ride to the trolley, which goes right to Petco Park. Anything that is along the trolley is easy to get to. With the exception of Balboa Park everywhere else, like La Jolla, is a long bus ride. To get to Balboa Park you take the #7 bus from downtown to the park.

If the weather is nice, I would recommend seeing one of the beaches. All the beaches are nice but they all have a different flavor. Ocean Beach has an interesting shopping district with tatoo shops and bar/lounges. Pacific Beach has a young crowd, there's a Hooters here too. La Jolla Shores is a family fun type of beach with a playground right on the beach. Shopping district is peppered with stores that offer kayak, surf lessons. La Jolla Cove is an upscale boardwalk type of area. The shopping district here consists of boutiques, cafes and museums. See here for beach info:

San Diego has an extensive transit system which includes bus, trolley and ferry. However, the buses don't run very often: some of them run once per hour and some of them don't run at all during the weekends. If I were you, I wouldn't rely on public transportation to get you around efficiently. Sure, you'll get there, but you'll spend most of your time getting there and who wants that? I recommend taking taxi or sometimes our hotel will have free shuttle service to key tourist spots. See here for bus and ground transportation options:

If you find a hotel near the Coaster train station, you can use that to get around. The San Diego Coaster train will take you near downtown San Diego Embarcadero, and the Gas Lamp District in San Diego. You can also go north to Encinitas for the day, and walk around. There is a lot to see, from Swami's, the Self Realization fellowship temple, San Diego Botanic garden, all within walking distance.
See other ideas on the attached google map. Note that the coaster train does not run on Sundays.Things to do during the day in San Diego?
Balboa Park has much more than just the zoo. There's over a dozen different museums to visit. If you have children (Or love hands-on exhibits), I'd recommend the Reuben H Fleet Science Center.
Also, take a stroll along Mission Beach Boardwalk and take a ride on the Giant Dipper.
Public transportation isn't too much of a problem. Just make sure you get your schedules right!
take the guide !!
