What are some fun things to do or see in San Francisco and surrounding areas?

I have been there before and saw the basics. I will be there with my husband..but also need to find things for when he is working. Maybe list things that are and are not in the books. What are some fun things to do or see in San Francisco and surrounding areas?
A great question! SF is surrounded with great places to go, just outside it's door. To the North, cross the GG Bridge. The very first exits will either take you down to Sausalito, or up the hill to the Marin Headlands. You will be in an entirely new environment. Unspoiled hills and beach at the end with an ocean suitable only for surfers. Dangerous waters! Continuing North on 101 the series of next exits can take you to Tennessee Valley Beach, Muir Beach, Stinson Beach, China Camp, MT. TAM!!!, Samuel P. Taylor State Park, Pt. Reyes. At each and every spot I mentioned, there is hiking, some camping, beaches, Redwoods, and places in each where you can spend an entire day, and if you wish, never see another person. To the South, and East, the whole thing starts again with more open spaces and places of great QUIET beauty than you will be able to see in your lifetime. What are some fun things to do or see in San Francisco and surrounding areas?
Baker Beach is awesome, and the weather's been really nice there. If you look it up, it'll say it's a nude beach, but only part of it is. Right when you walk up, it's not -- it only is about a quarter mile down (so you don't have to see anything if you don't want to). You can't beat the view though - it's looking directly at the Golden Gate.

I've done a lot of traveling, and this web site's pretty good too.
Go to www.yelp.com and plug in SF... you'll get really cool, hip and unusual answers that few people know of....What are some fun things to do or see in San Francisco and surrounding areas?

There are many museums to enjoy if that is what you like. You can also shop in many unique areas of the city. There are a variety of tours that you could sign up to go on probably at your hotel.

Some of my favorites are riding the ferry from downtown San Francisco at the Ferry Building over to Sausilito. You can enjoy lunch and shopping and then ride back. Pt. Reyes National Seashore to the north of San Francisco is a beautiful place for hiking, whale watching, birding, sight seeing. Walking across the Golden Gate Bridge is fun...bring a camera because you get some great views of the San Francisco Skyline from the bridge.

If you enjoy wine tasting, Napa Valley is not far away. Not far east of the city is Livermore Wine County, much less crowded with lots of wineries and most don't charge. For winery info visit http://www.cheers2wine.com.
go to chinatown and have Dim-Sun and then to The Sutro Baths at the end of the Golden Gate Park where it hits the pacific ocean. have lunch or dinner at any pizza parlor in the sunset district, the little out of the way ones are the best.

And Dont forget Giredilli square!
