Please tell me any fun things to do out there... =)Wat are the fun things to do in San Francisco? I dont want any touristy spots.?
:\ Um, no offense, but everyone's full of crap. It's actually pretty easy to escape tourism in San Francisco... just avoid most of the NE portion of the city (this includes, especially, Fisherman's Wharf, Union Square, Chinatown, and North Beach ["Little Italy"] - if you just avoid those 4 areas, all connected, you should mostly be in the clear) and you're pretty good to go.
That said, "fun" is entirely subjective. Lots of great parks at the Western end of the city (Lands End - best if you hike down, through the woods, to the beach and lower area, Fort Funston - nice walking south along the cliffs/dunes, etc...). Hang gliding (!!!!!) at Fort Funston. Jejune Institute has a weird little scavenger hunt kinda thing - vaguely cultish, actually (but in a funny/good way). Different neighborhoods have different feels - inner Richmond along Clement is very Asian (mostly Chinese), along Geary is very Eastern European (mostly Russian). Mission (especially along Valencia) has lots of bars and crap, if that's your thing. The Castro Theatre ( http://castrotheatre.com/p-list.html ) has lots of great movies (classic, kitschy, foreign, sing-alongs, etc...). Eagle Tavern often has suspiciously good bands playing on Thursday nights (it's first and foremost a gay bar, for added San Francisco kitsch, but a fairly dingy little place that's not touristy at all... and on Thursdays, it's quite mixed). Jewish Community Center typically has cool stuff. Contemporary Jewish Museum currently (and through January) has a great Maurice Sendak exhibition. SFMOMA and Legion of Honor are quite nice - yes, they're tourist attractions, but not strictly touristy (they're just attractions coz, um, they have great stuff, but def. not catered to tourists). A few still abandoned buildings to explore in the Presidio. Great murals/graffiti art throughout the Mission neighborhood... some other good stuff at certain bunkers in the Presidio (along the northern coast, above Crissy field) and parts of Hunter's Point (um, but be careful there) also have some great art. Etc, etc, etc...
Um, but to add one ultra touristy thing (at Fisherman's Wharf)... the Musee Mechanique is pretty amazing: http://www.museemechanique.org/
Again though, it's all very subjective. If you were to give more specific criteria about what you like, it would be easier to make suggestions.Wat are the fun things to do in San Francisco? I dont want any touristy spots.?
Oh darn, well, a lot of places in San Fransisco are touristy, but depending what you want to do well that depends. If you like games and such you can head to the Metreon to go bowling or play video games with a friend or two. There is also plenty of nice bars if you want to drinking (especially in the Fisherman's district/little italy), I would recommend the Buena Vista near Ghirardelli square. There's many good restaurants, seafood you can go to Fisherman's market, good mexican/latino food in the mission district, good italian in little Italy....of course you can't forget about China town there's lots of cool shops with trinkets and such as well as good chinese food. If you're looking for a nice walk with lots of scenery you can have walk around Golden Gate park or go fishing or whatnot towards the west portion of the city. There's also big beaches on the west side of San Fransisco, and a zoo near there too. Hope that helped :)
As others have said getting away from the tourist element of SF is very difficult because tourism is the #1 industry of SF. But here are some options that don't feel like Disneyland or Vegas.
Explore the Mission, gritty, diverse, great food, unique shopping options, art, theatre, thriving nightlife.
Richmond and Sunset both mostly residential but with some very interesting commercial areas [Clement Street, Irving]
Ocean Beach - it is always cold here and thus people don't just visit the beach.
Glen Park Area - a canyon, some good food, almost like a small town. Not much else to recommend it except that it is a true SF neighborhood that most tourists never hear of.
Randall Museum a small children's natural history museum above the castro, a Sculpture garden and some of the most amazing views of the city.
Parts of the Presidio are secluded and beautiful, just stay away from the Disney Museum/Lucas Films part of the park.Wat are the fun things to do in San Francisco? I dont want any touristy spots.?
Pier 39, Malls, Metreon, Ice skating in the winter time, tons of good restaurants and bars. the rest are pretty much tourist stuff.
