Depends how old you are. Assuming you can drive:
1) Walk across the golden gate bridge
2) visit the fort UNDER the golden gate bridge (used to guard it)
3) MOST AMAZING view of GG Bridge and San Francisco -- Drive across GG Bridge and visit the marin headlands (take first exit after driving across bridge, go under bridge and drive up hill. Stop at any of the dirt lots (1st one is my favorite)
4) Alcatraz island is cool but tix are hard to get ant $20ish ea
5) Take Ferrry to Angel Island (~$5/ea) from Tiburon (15 minute drive from San Fran)
6) In San Francisco, visit China Town (find Sam Wo's restaurant for CHEAP good food and you earn extra points)
7) Giradelli Square is neat and so is Union Square
8) Fishermans Warf is cool to walk around and get some fresh crab coctail from one of the street vendors
9) Drive to Napa Valley and sample wine for free -- beautiful drive (45 mins away from SF)Anyone have any ideas on fun things to do in the san francisco bay area? (that don't cost a fortune?)?
Check out haight street and golden gate park. their are tons of people on haight who will hang out with anybody. the stores are really cool to. although you have never had so many homeless people asking you for money in one place. they are all nice though.Anyone have any ideas on fun things to do in the san francisco bay area? Which area of the Bay Area are you referring to? Do you mean fun things to do for tourists or for locals?
My favorite - Wine tasting in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. Most of the smaller wineries offer FREE tasting.
Also fun is going to Mt. Diablo (explore Rock City) or Mt. Tamalpias.
In the Marin Headlands, visit the marine mammal center.
Mud baths in Calistoga
Jelly Belly and Anheiuser Busch free tours in Fairfield
Drive out to the town of Bodega and see where they filmed The Birds, then continue on to Bodega Bay, visit the Tides and have an awesome lunch on the water.
Exploratorium in SF, rollerblading in GG park.
Eat Ice Cream at Fenton's in Piedmont.
Walk around downtown Berkely and get pizza at blondies.
The Blackhawk auto museum in Danville.
Kayaking in Tomales BayAnyone have any ideas on fun things to do in the san francisco bay area? (that don't cost a fortune?)?
Drive up to the top of Mount Tam(alpais) - the view of the Bay Area is stunning (on a clear day) - then descend a bit to see Muir Woods - the giant redwoods are amazing. 4 or 5 magical hours!
Make sure your brakes are good!Anyone have any ideas on fun things to do in the san francisco bay area? (that don't cost a fortune?)?
Go to Ghirardelli Square near Fisherman's Wharf. There are lots of shops and restaurants, to have some cheap eats and window shopping. Also, the sea lions have a sanctuary near to where you take the ferry to Alcatraz. My husband and I had a fun time just watching the sea lions (killing time for an hour). There are lots of little shops around Fisherman's Wharf, and its nice just to walk around there. There is a bakery that does tours of the facilities (can't remember what its called but starts with a B) - the tours don't cost that much.
