I'll be in San Francisco/Oakland in a couple of weeks for a vacation with my husband, and we're trying to think of fun things to do. We're planning on going to a couple of baseball games already. We're 27 and aren't into clubs or bars. We've been to Alcatraz before. Any other (unique) suggestions? Thanks! What is there to do in San Francisco/Oakland?
Academy of Science museum in Golden Gate Park is always good.Just get there before 10 am and get in line for their ticketed Planetarium show and 3D Bug Show. That's definitely important that you do this first cause once they run out of tickets thats it for the day. And after getting those free tickets get in line to see the indoor rainforest. Its awesome at that place. They even have an Aquarium. The food there isnt bad either, they have a pretty good gumbo on their menu.Plus you can practically spend the day at Golden GAte Park, its huge. There's tons of stuff to do.Then for dinner try the famous Cliff House in the same area. Its been there in one form or another since the mid 1800s. Talk about history.Well wherever you two go, have a blast! What is there to do in San Francisco/Oakland?
Chinatown in Oakland. Go to Quickly's and get their popcorn chicken there. It's the BEST popcorn chicken I've ever ate. Get their advocado drink there too. It's so good.
In SF you should go to the Westfield Mall. They have SO MUCH stores there. Go to Angel Island. I went there abut 4 years ago in 4th grade. It was really cool there.
You should also go to Boomers, but I forgot where was that. The go-carts are so much fun, even if you're 27, you'll really enjoy it.
There's also an aquarium in SF. It's really boring tho. They don't have much but it's a pretty cool experience. You get to touch this small little shark. It's pretty much harmless too. Ooh, they also have many places to eat crabs. There was this one place that you can eat crabs(sorry for forgetting the names) that had awesome mints.
That's pretty much it, that I can think of.
Japan Town is always fun. It's a little mall located in JapanTown.
There's also Chinatown if you want to visit some Chinese cultures and food, but I got to warn you, it's pretty dirty there. I recommend going to the Fortune Cookie Factory. It's fun looking at them making cookies.
What about Golden Gate Bridge? In my point of view, it's just a regular bridge... Nothing special.
What about Angel Island? Or Sausalito?
If you want to go shopping, I really recommend Westfield San Francisco Centre. It's HUGE! :D And Downtown is always fun.
Union Square has lots of things going on there too.
Zeum is fun too. You can see it when you're at the mall. Metreon is close too. Yerba Buena Center has lots of things to do. There's bowling, and ice skating! And again, that's connected to Zeum.
Asian Art Museum?
California Academy of Sciences? They recently reopened it.
What about City Hall? LOL.
Fisherman's Wharf? Pier 39? That's where lots of tourists go also. But beware of the Bushman. LOL. He's famous!
I'm not sure about Oakland though, but you should check out their Chinatown too!
I'll come back if there's more things to do. Have fun on your trip!
EDIT!
You should totally ride the cable car too! It's really nice. I heard that our's is the only cable car there is! ;D It's near Chinatown.
You can visit the tower too! It's tall! I think it's the 46th most tallest in the world. And it's also located near Chinatown. ;DWhat is there to do in San Francisco/Oakland?
Visit Berkeley or the Lawrence Hall of Science which are in the hills behind Berkeley. Also the greek threatre where the Dalai Lama adressed Berkeley students about peace (http://www.berkeley.edu/news/media/releases/2009/04/27_dalailama.shtml).
In SF there is Pier 31, if your interested in shopping there's A Huge shopping mall called bloomingdales I think which is connected to the BART. they also have cable cars and the Museum of Modern Art and Yerbua Buena Gardens
