We are going to be taking a trip in June from Fresno to Monterey Bay to check out the aquarium. We were thinking of going to San Francisco as well. What is the drive like? I get car sick so I want to be prepared if it is curvy, or in the mountains? Also, what are a couple of things that a family with young children could do/see in San Francisco? What is the drive like from Fresno to San Francisco?
For the drive from Fresno to Monterey you'll probably want to take the 99 to Hwy 152, which isn't too bad of a drive except for Pacheco Pass, where it's a little curvy but not too bad. Then to Monterey you'll just be on 101 and Hwy 1, which will not be curvy.
The drive from Monterey to San Francisco will be curvy if you take Hwy 1 to Santa Cruz, and then take Hwy 17 which goes through the mountains. That is the fastest route, but if you can't handle it, just go through Salinas and catch the 101 there.
Activities for kids: Golden Gate Park has a park for kids and lots of other attractions; San Francisco Zoo; depending on how old the kids are, the Yerba Buena Center has ice skating year round; and if you go slightly south of SF, there is a 'Malibu' miniature golf place in Redwood City. This is a good list of entertainment for kids: http://www.sfkids.org/Listings.aspx?subc鈥?/a>What is the drive like from Fresno to San Francisco?
It's mostly a flat, 2 lane highway through the desert until you hit the altamont where it adds more lanes. It's not a rough drive at all. I drive from SD to SF twice a month and the worst part from Fresno to SF is the traffic once you get to Oakland and go over the bridge. You'll do fine.
Things for kids:
Fisherman's wharf- a ton of restaurants and an outdoor marketplace.
Cable Car ride
Ghiradelli Chocolate FactoryWhat is the drive like from Fresno to San Francisco?
The ride is straight and fast- REALLY fast, that is until you get into the Bay Area, then it's just like any other urban area.
