Things to See and Do on, or near Highway 1 from LA to San Francisco?

Hello! I i booked a trip to California, and will be staying in LA, and road tripping from Los Angeles, to San Francisco on Highway 1. Is there things i can see and do near, or on highway 1on the way to San Francisco that is interesting? I heard there was a forest with massive trees! If anyone has any details about that, or anything else that'd be awesome!!! Best answer will be selected.Things to See and Do on, or near Highway 1 from LA to San Francisco?
Hey, i'm from England and previously did this trip 2 weeks ago and it was a wonderful experience, so you're sure to enjoy it.

On the highway there is mostly winding mountain roads which are a ride in themselves so be careful, the views of the sea and the mountains are so beautiful though so make sure to have a camera at the ready.

There are a lot of camp sites %26amp; a few mini marts %26amp; tiny stores if you need anything on the trip.

I stopped at a little resort just at the end of all the mountains - i forget the name now sorry - but it had a little motel kind of thing, a few cafes, a mini mart and fast food area also.

As you get to the bottom it becomes flat and desert land - look out for the seal on the right hand side as you go down near the beach (you will probably see lots of tourists there anyway) so take a few pics.

I went from S.F. to L.A. on a thursday and the time estimated to get there was 8 hours so that's what we did and the drive isn't as tiring as you would think at all.. HOWEVER, with l.a. being such a large, over-populated city and with it being rush hour when we got onto the main highway it took us another 3/4 hours to finally get to Anaheim so make sure to keep that in mind or if you have a sat-nav put in 'avoid highway 5' it's constantly busy even in the middle of a work day.

I hope you enjoy yourself %26amp; just writing this i wish i could go back %26amp; stay there (:

Hope this helped.Things to See and Do on, or near Highway 1 from LA to San Francisco?
Hearst Castle - Not really a castle but a large mansion, actually a complex of several buildings. It's more of a half-day or full-day thing, since you can only see it on a guided tour. You can't just take a look and keep going.

McWay Beach - At Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park (not to be confused with Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park). About a half-mile hike toward the ocean from the highway takes you to an overlook where you can see a waterfall cascading onto the beach. You can also take longer hikes the other direction into the woods.

Nepenthe - A restaurant with spectacular views of the coast.

Point Lobos - Dramatic coastline and excellent examples of the iconic Monterey cypress trees.

Not sure where you can see big trees on the route from LA to SF. Maybe continue a little farther across the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Woods.Things to See and Do on, or near Highway 1 from LA to San Francisco?

When you get to Monterey, pay a visit to the aquarium. Spend a little time walking around their waterfront.
