Embarcadero is wicked nice, and it's not THAT far, so you could really just walk down it to the Ferry Building. On Saturdays they do a nice farmer's market and you can get lots of good stuff. Walk down to Pier 39.

I loves these POPOUT map- you get to see where you are-

Explore North Beach! You can take the Powell Mason cable car to Columbus and Mason and then walk just a block or two to Washington Square park. There are lots of cool shops and boutiques along Grant Avenue, the Beat Museum on Broadway near Columbus, and of course you should also see Coit tower with it's beautiful WPA murals and stunning views of the city.

North Beach has lots of great cafes with tables on the sidewalk so you can enjoy the street scene while you eat. Here are some suggestions.

Go to Molinaries at Columbus and Green. Have one of the cute guys behind the counter make you an incredible sandwich, get a soda and eat outside or take you lunch up to Washington Square Park to eat lunch.

Have a salad, pannini or pizza at Mario's Bohemian Cigar Store at Columbus and Union. Outside or inside seating.

El Greco Cafe on Columbus between Green and Vallejio is a nice spot for coffee and the big windows give you a view of life on the street.

Take a break at the gelato store on Columbus just north of Green Street.

Z Cioccolato on Columbus at green makes fresh carmel corn, fudge [free samples] and a some of the city's best chocolate

What about the Golden Gate Bridge, or one of those parks or gardens around town? There should be lots of stuff to do.
