i have guest coming from the east coast and would like to show them around but it looks like rain.....
looking for some suggestions or ideas for wednesday and thursday. except the de young and science museum because that's on the list already.
thanks! What is your favorite thing to do in or around san francisco when it is raining?
About.com has a short article with some suggestions: http://gocalifornia.about.com/od/casfmenu/a/rainysf.htm
I agree with the article's recommendation about the Beach Chalet. It's right on the Pacific and has large windows so you can see all of the beautiful view, plus the food is great. You can drive there (it has a parking lot) or take the 38 or the 1.
You could also just hang out in a coffee shop or bookstore and people watch. That's a very San Francisco thing to do. North Beach has some good coffee shops, as well as the famous City Lights bookstore. But if you're going to the DeYoung and CA Academy of Sciences, you could check out the coffee shops in the inner Richmond or on Divisadero Street. Good people watching in both of those places. You could also find a coffee shop/shopping district that has a good view - Fillmore Street near Pacific Ave., and the Marina, would have those.
I'm also a big fan of the Castro Theatre: http://www.castrotheatre.com/
It's a historic movie theater in the heart of the Castro with good popcorn and even better people watching. The Muni station is right across the street.
Finally, keep in mind that rain in San Francisco is usually fairly light and doesn't go for days at a time. You'll probably be able to do some normal activities despite the rain! What is your favorite thing to do in or around san francisco when it is raining?
it always looks like rain and overcast but it never rains
