Option 1
Get a hotel room with a view. Drink some wine from the Napa Valley. Wear Toga's. Order room service and enjoy the view. Then make mad passionate love for the whole day. Really go for it in a sweaty animal kind of way...or
Option 2
You can go down to fisherman's wharf, go to the Ripley's believe it or not museum, get a bowl of chowder, listen to some blues and get some chocolate at Ghiradelli Square and then ride the cable cars. and then go to Option 1
Hope this helpsFun inexpensive things for a platonic couple to do in San Francisco on a weekday?
If you are a couple, why are you platonic? that's odd.Fun inexpensive things for a platonic couple to do in San Francisco on a weekday?
go to a gay bar
Do the mongolian monkey dance............Fun inexpensive things for a platonic couple to do in San Francisco on a weekday?
ride the f*cking cable car and gawk at everyone like f*cking retards.
Actually, I recommend you never ride them at night, because it can be freezing as f*ck, especially this time of year.
And they're open so you're exposed to the wind.
I would Avoid Northbeach like the Plague!
Well, it depends on what you like to do. There is so much to do: opera, classical music, ballet, if you are snooty. If you are on the grungier side, there are music shows every night, many of them very inexpensive at local bars and venues and stuff, fun. You could try the Fillmore. Walk down Fillmore for shops 'n' sh*t during the day, it's very nice. Then at night there is also all sorts of stuff to do around there. You could go to the Boom Boom Room (John Lee Hooker's (r.i.p.) place). Divisidero is only a couple of blocks away with a bunch more places to go (trendy bars popping up all over the place around there).
You could go ice-skating like a couple of fairies. Speaking of which, I'm sure you would have fun in "the Castro". Go to Market and Castro. That's the famous gay area, but seriously you don't have to be gay to go there. There are tons of cool bars around there for "regular" people too, restaurants, diners, it's a fun atmosphere. Try this one bar called "Amber." Cool atmosphere, good drinks (Try one of the exotic Mojito flavors), lots of space for lounging around and not too busy on a weekday but not dead either.
If you like good beer, head over to El Toreador on Haight Street. There is much else to do there as well, and you should definetely wander around there during the day. Awesome area. You can walk all the way to the upper end of Haight street and you'll bump into Golden Gate Park. Also, in another part of the park not far from there is the new Museum, whatchamacallit I forgot the name of it. It's made out of copper, and the Japanese Tea Garden (open till 4pm with $2 tea I believe) is not far either, as well as the botanical gardens.
You could go to the beach. if you head down to the end of Sloat you could go to the beach AND the zoo, but it's a little out of the way.
And if you must go to Northbeach, I think the place is called Steps of Rome that's really really trendy and actually has pretty good food if I remember correctly...
There's something for everyone.
Pier 39 or looking around in Union SquareFun inexpensive things for a platonic couple to do in San Francisco on a weekday?
Take a cable car ride around the City to see all the sights. Hang out at Golden Gate Park and pack a picnic lunch. There are many beautiful scenic views (all for FREE). Next, go to Chinatown and walk around. It's like being a whole different country. Some shops may give you free samples of veggies or duck, and it is good! You could also walk down Market Street and take a look at the different shops and people. You'll see many of different cultures. You can hang out at Fisherman's Wharf, check out the seals on the docks. Watch the ships go by. Take a look at Alcatraz. If you feel like walking, you can cross the Golden Gate on foot, well, OK, halfway. It's a long walk. You can look down and see the ocean. If the USS Enterprise happens to sail underneath it when you are there, at hightide it will miss the bridge by only 6 or 7 feet! There are many cheap things to do there. It's the most romantic city in the US, and while you say you are platonic you may change your mind once your day is complete.
Ride the cable car. It will take you to from Union Square to Fisherman's Wharf. Tons of sightseeing to do at both ends of the line, and the ride is only a few bucks each way.
Touristy things could include Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, a bay cruise, ride the cable cars (though it's not a few bucks; it's $5.00 each direction with no transfers allowed), Alcatraz or Angel Island.
The Haight can be fun to hang around, visit shops, eat some good food, people watch. Try Cha Cha Cha for some great Mexican food or Eos for what they call "Asian fusion."
Or spend the day in Golden Gate Park, where you can visit the Japanese Tea Garden, Conservatory of Flowers, Aquarium, the new de Young Museum.
Or take a walking tour (some here: http://www.sfmission.com/cgi-bin/gallery鈥?/a>
Or check the SF Bay Guardian for events happening on the day you visit: http://www.sfbg.com/
Have fun!
hahaha
Ride the cable cars, visit Pier 39. Walk the Golden Gate Bridge (Just don't jump!)
Wow there is sooo much!
In no particular order some suggestions:
First Wednesdays go to a museum, most are free.
Go to the GG Park or Lincoln Park.
Hang out in City Lights or Green Apple, you can spend hours there!
Coffee at one of the small cafes in North Beach.
Go to Metreon/AMC Van Ness or Kabuki, catch a matinee and spend the rest of the day watching movies.
Check SF Gate's Datebook or other media for their events calendars, there are usually a bunch of free events.
Go on one of the main Muni lines and just see where it goes, get off periodically and explore the city.
Amoeba Records in the Haight... you can spend literally all day there!
Chinatown or even Clement Street in the Inner Richmond... just walk around and check it out.
Not necessarily fun, but always rewarding-- Glide Memorial, go serve a meal on any day.
Sporting events, high school or college or otherwise, in GG Park.
Walk/Bike/Blade across Golden Gate Bridge
See a jazz band practice or catch a show at a lounge.
Trivia Nights at Pubs.
Some places have old movies shown for relatively cheap and the crowds are always lively... like the Clay or the Bridge or the Independent.
That's all I can really think of off the top of my head! Good luck!
