What to do in San Francisco for 8 hours?

I am flying to Phoenix in Janurary and I have an 8 hour layover in San Fran. Some good things to do during that time?What to do in San Francisco for 8 hours?

Take a ride over the Golden Gate Bridge and park on the north side. Take a walk over and return. Before heading back to San Francisco, take a ride up the Marin Headlands. You are right there and it will take less than five minutes to park, and look down on the Golden Gate Bridge, across the entire Bay Area and out to the Farrallon Islands.



Now, head back into SF and drive upto the the top of Divisidero and Broadway. Park and take 2 minutes to look around at the world of Pacific Heights. Now, drive down hill and go to the Castro District (the gay district) on Market Street. This is way more fun if you are straight than gay. It is simply a beautiful part of the city and fun and engaging. The Victorian Homes are called our Painted Ladies and they are kept meticulously and painted dramatically, of course. Now its time to take a cable car down market and stop off once you get to Union Square. Enjoy a quick bite or drink in any of the world famous restaurants, see the sites and the shopping. Walk to the North end of the Square and see the entrance to China Town through a beautiful arc. If you have time, sneak on up and enjoy fabulous, authentic food. Being that you will be at SFO airport, which is about 40 minutes away from the city itself theres not much you can get done in 8 hours.



Once arrived, you need to take bart or shuttle to the city... about 40 minutes, so 7 hours left... wait, you have to be sure you are at the airport 1 hour before your flight and also include the 40 minutes to get back to the airport... so you have 4.5-5 hours in the city. About enough time to get to union square, check out the hobos, shop for a blouse at macys, get something to eat then get back on bart and navigate your way back to the airport.

Get off cable car and walk down Lombard St(crookiest St in America)



Eat Chowder out of the original sour dough bread bowls at the piers



Look across at Alcatraz and be amazed at how close it seems yet it was inescapable!

Ok you have to go see the island of alcatraz . its so cool! i went and it was my fav part of my trip all over california. also cross the golden gate bridge.What to do in San Francisco for 8 hours?
From the airport, take the BART. Get off at either Civic Center or Powell Street. This takes you right into downtown SF. Walk around, explore, eat dinner, etc.
Go to a theather, museum or go shopping also maybe some sightseeing
Go to the Museum of Modern Art and check out whatever's on exhibit.
