What should I see while going to Northern California? San Jose/San Francisco area?

I'm visiting California from Chicago and I was wondering what I should be sure to visit. What are some cool things to do in Santa Cruz, San Jose, San Francisco, and Sacramento?

Accross the GG bridge - go see Muir Woods- amazing giant Redwoods.



Take the time to drive to Yosemite - it is worth the trip.What should I see while going to Northern California? San Jose/San Francisco area?
SF- Golden Gate! duh. and the botanical gardens there. the zoo. check out the whole Macy's area too. 5 stories w/ and underground Ben and Jerry's!!



Sacramento- the historical site in the Gov.'s building. on the opposite side of town there is some westerly type of town. It's fun to walk around! And there is a really good restaurant too! san francisco- golden gate and china town. ride the little trolley things. and go to the pier.

SF - check out fisherman's wharft, the golden gate bridge, golden gate park, ride the cable car, shop in union square, walk through north beach (little italy) and grab some good italiano food and a cappuccino then you can walk up to telegraph hill and get a good view of the city.



santa cruz - go to the boardwalk... thats about all there is to really do there, its a small beach town. you can walk around the boardwalk, eat some fresh clam chowder at a restaurant along the beach and walk through the downtown and shop.



san jose - dunno, i never go to san jose



sacramento - go downtown and see the capitol, you can go to "old sacramento", I believe this is what the first answerer is referring to. There is a train museum and some little shops around. Um... again, not a whole lot to do in sacramento... maybe take a stroll down K Street, which is downtown and has shops and theaters, etc.
Oh so many things to do.
