Last week, the San Francisco Giants signed free agent picture Barry Zito to a 7-year, $126 million contract. This is best siging for the Giants since they signed Barry Bonds in 1992. Do you think that the Giants did the right thing to acquire a picture who has a cy young award and also a picture that Giants needed. Over the past years, the Giants haven't been signing any good players since Dusty Baker left the team. Do you also think that Barry Zito fits ok with the Giants pitching? And also, do you think that the Giants were a perfect team for him to sign with instead of NY Mets, Texas Rangers, and Seattle Mariners. What do you think of Barry Zito signing with the Giants? What do you think of the San Francisco Giants signing Barry Zito?
The Giants are going to be one hell of a team!!What do you think of the San Francisco Giants signing Barry Zito?
The Giants made a bad move signing Zito to such a long contract. Pitchers are like fragle eggs. No matter how good he is or could be...NO pitcher should be signed for that long due to the best intrest of the team. Perfect example is Kevin Brown. He signed a really long contract and he was a great pitcher (when he signed it) and as he got older he had problems. Almost all pitchers have problems when the get older. Pedro is having some problems now. Clemens had some leg problems. He's a good pitcher but ANY team should have insisted on 5 years with maybe 2 option years, with some guarentees that could automatically invoke those option years. That would have been smarter. Barry Zito also should have went to the Mets. Better team, larger Market, and a great core of young players to all develope together for the next 5+ years. Plus I'm a Mets Fan
I think they will do good with him.
Again, this is a sports nation your talking about, we cant say for sure. What do you think of the San Francisco Giants signing Barry Zito?
They did not, the Mariners did.
Its the first step towards the future. What do you think of the San Francisco Giants signing Barry Zito?
I think that as a personal choice Zito made the right decision for himself and his family. $126 million and you get to stay in the place where you live, no moving to the east coast. Zito made out like a Bandit ha ha. As for the Giants, as someone else mentioned if they have the money then Zito was a fairly decent choice. I would just be concerned that his best years may be behind him but maybe this new team and new league might pump some fresh blood into both the Giants and Zito. Thus each doing the other some good. It might be a great deal for all involved or it might be a $126 million dollar mistake. We will know soon enough, but it is fun to speculate.
I think we'll do well. (I hope we do well...yes, I am a Giants fan!) =)
I think as long as they had the money to do it, good for them. If you plan on overpaying for someone you might as well overpay for the best available. If they wasn't planning on spending that much money Seattle or Texas would have picked him up. The Giants HAD to sign someone to stay competitive and Barry Zito will do just that. He'll join Matt Morris in heading a fairly young rotation otherwise. By losing Schmidt they needed another veteran to fill in with the younger pitchers Noah Lowry and Matt Cain. Therefore I think that he fits in really well with the rest of the Giants pitchers. For him, the Giants was a better team than the Mets, Rangers, and Mariners. Of the four teams the Giants and the Mariners are the only west coast teams, which his west coast demeanor prefers. And between the Mariners and the Giants...the Giants should be the most competitive next season. They overpaid but who hasn't...Barry Zito was the best possible option regardless of the price.
i think that he shouldve went to the NYY they need good pitching but now the giants have a decent team
GO YANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111
Well they we're left with no other option, they lost Shmidt to an opponent in their division, Dodgers, so they needed an arm. That's why I think the money you see they paid him was from desperation. But Barry's a good pitcher, in the top five right now, and he'll flourish in the National League with the 8th and 9th batters. I still think that that division is going to be one of tyhe most interesting in the NL because of Barry Zito's Giants and the Dodgers with Jason Shmidt, Nomar, and Gonzo.
He's overrated and not worth it, they paniced, period. He won a lot of ball games for Oakland but was just average in big game situations. You need to reach back and throw 95mph and strike people out when it comes down to it and he can't.
Zito's best days are behind him. He will have to bat in the NL. Otherwise, seems like a good move for Zito. Rangers and Mariners don't win much. The Giants do need help in the starting rotation. Last year, they didn't pitch well down the stretch.
he'll be ok. a little out of his prime but 15 wins he'll give em.
Unlike Schmidt ( who was an FA) barry is younger and injury free. I think its a good signing yes. Only time will tell.
Up in the air on this one...
The last two 100M+ signees (pitchers) tanked (Kevin Brown, Mike Hampton), yet Zito is 4th since '00 in most innings pitched and 3rd in wins.
Could be a good move.
haha.
No I think they wasted there money,he said he wanted a team that will be a contender they wont be.The players they have wont give him the run support at all.I think if he wins 10 games he has done well
it is good
i think he sided mainly with san fran just to play where he lives. personally, i dont like san fran at all, so i dont like to see him there. i think he might get lit up more here than oakland or some of the other interested teams cuz its a hitters ball park. i like zito alot and wished the cards persued him more. i hope he does well, but also hope he realizes that a world series ring wont come via san fran so he leaves and goes to a team with a legit shot at the WS.
It'll be a matter of whether or not he can learn the two most important things for pitching in the National League:
#1. PITCH IN
#2. 4 pitches or less - don't throw "waste" pitches.
Minor addition: Learn to bunt and field your position are good too, but not nearly as important as those two.
