What are the top things to do in San Francisco & the area around it?

My family and me and my friend will be driving down to San Francisco from Canada this summer in August. I've been to DISNEYLAND and that area alot of times, but my dad doesn't want the hassle of driving all the way up to Anaheim this year (trust me I begged) Anyways, I am a thirteen year old girl, will be fourteen when we are in San Fran. I'm wondering what are the things we can do there ?

Links would be great.

%26amp; TRUST ME!! I'LL BE SHOPPING alot.

There are plenty of things to keep you busy in and around San Francisco. You can visit Alcatraz, drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, go to the San Francisco Zoo and Aquarium, head to Golden Gate Park to view the lovely Japanese Tea Gardens, go to the top of Coit Tower for a great view of the city, ride a cable car, drive down "the crookedest street in the world" (Lombard Street), visit Chinatown for some dim sum, tea, or to tour a fortune cookie factory.

As for shopping, The Embarcadero (Embarcadero), Pier 39 and Ghiradelli Square (both located at Fisherman's Wharf) have some great shopping. You can also find some great shopping on Union Street.

Muir Woods is just north of San Francisco, and it's a great place to enjoy nature. Very peaceful place.

I highly recommend driving the PCH (Highway 1) to Monterey. Its' a 2 hour drive south of San Francisco. It's very scenic, and one of the most beautiful places on earth. In Monterey, you can visit the Monterey Aquarium, Cannery Row, and the 17 mile drive in Pebble Beach. This area is spectacular!

You can just walk around these areas:

Japantown, Chinatown, North Beach, Haight Street, Fillmore Street (from Japantown up), Polk Street, the Embarcadero...

Take the ferry to Angel Island and or Sausalito. Walk across (or half way across) the Golden Gate Bridge. Go to the Presidio and Golden Gate Park. Golden Gate Park will have festivities almost every weekend in the summer. Go to the California Academy of Science and the Japanese Tea Gardens in Golden Gate Park. Go to the Cliff House Restaurant for dinner and watch the sun set over the ocean...

Have fun and a happy birthday!
