Things to do in San Francisco for people who've already done everything in San Francisco?

My family and I are looking for interesting things to do in San Francisco that aren't your stereo typical "things to do" in San Francisco. We're planning a 3-day trip down the coast this January and we'd like to stop in S.F. for a day, but we need new things to do there. We have been to S.F. dozens of times and have done all the typical tourist stuff. So outside the obvious, what is there to do in S.F.? Any interesting museums or sites to see that we may have overlooked? Any interesting restaurants or shops? Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Also, we are planning to drive as far as Monterey, anything really interesting between S.F. and Monterey that we should check out? Thanks.Things to do in San Francisco for people who've already done everything in San Francisco?

Wow....there is actually someone who has "already done everything in San Francisco?" I love San Francisco and lived there for 4 years--and I know that I didn't see and do all there is to do (and I'm an EXPLORER at heart).

I would love to link up with you to show me a few things!

Seriously, San Francisco is a dynamic city where there is constant change--particularly on the restaurant and club scenes. If it has been a while since you have been there, there is a good chance that there are yet some new things for you to see and do.

Have you been to Muir Woods? Just North of the Golden Gate Bridge. BEAUTIFUL Place. The Napa/Sonoma Valley is fabulous and I can never get enough of (I lived in Alameda County for 33 years). I will tell you what I like to do in San Francisco are

1. Chinatown

2. Try a new restaurant

3. Shopping

4. Museums

5. 3 Com ParkThings to do in San Francisco for people who've already done everything in San Francisco?
Although it sounds touristy, have you been to the Cable Car Museum? It's not a huge deal, but all the cable car lines actually run through it, and you get a close up glimpse of how the system operates.

Paddle boat rides on Stowe Lake in Golden Gate Park.

Hike up Mt. Tam (although if you're only here for a day, probably not; plus, it could be very, very cold).

The Cartoon Art Museum is small but has some interesting cartoon art from all periods (comic books, cel art, etc.).

My two current favorite restaurants are Eric's on Church Street (Chinese); it's crowded, so make a reservation. And Aslam's Rasoi on Valencia Street, Indian and Pakistani food.

Fort Mason Center has the best, albeit pricey, vegetarian food at Greens Restaurant. You could eat inside or get some delicious take out, walk over to the water's edge and watch the boats go by. There are also a few small museums there. If you're there on the weekend, BATS Improv has some of the best improv in town; there's also the Magic Theater that showcases great new plays.
