I'm flying to San Francisco in October, can anyone recommend eating, places, things to do?

On eating, I recommend you Pancho Villa Taqueria (3071 16th St, San Francisco, CA) for its fresh ingredients, skillful preparation and large portions have made this the Mission's most popular taqueria. Royal Exchange (301 Sacramento St, San Francisco, CA; http://www.royalexchange.com) for an old-school Fina is best for group dining. You can visit http://www.sanfrancisco.com/restaurants/ for information.

About things to do in SF, I think kango has made their effort to pick the best attractions for people who loves travel. I think this may help you much. Here is some list of their best pick, hope it helped!

Doubtlessly, Golden Gate Bridge is a must visit. The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the opening into the San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean.

Second, they recommend you to visit Exploratorium. Review of this place--here kids and adults are encouraged to play with and explore more than 650 exhibits.

Japanese Tea Garden may be your choice if you like tea and Japanese Style.

As you mention the museum in SF, Kango recommend you two is must- Wax Museum at Fisherman's Wharf and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). I think you may love it.

Another place you must visit in SF is Chinatown. You know, many American Chinese here, and it has Chinese character, very fantastics.

If you'd like you know more about, I also offer the link here: http://www.kango.com/kango_editors_best_鈥?/a> and hotels here: http://www.kango.com/kango_editors_best_鈥?/a>

Have a great time.

As an ex-patriate San Franciscan living in New Zealand who visits annually I would recommend the following:

Fun Eating: Tommy's Joynt on Geary and Van Ness

Any of the non-flash Chinatown restaurants

La Cumbre on 16th and Valencia

Things to do: Golden Gate Park- Japanese Tea Garden, MH De Young Museum, Arboretum, the buffalo paddock,

Ocean Beach - bythe Cliff House and Seal Rocks

The Exploratorium at the Palace of Legion of Honor

Hot Fudge Sundaes at Ghirardelli Square

The Maritime Museum

Hyde Street Pier to go on the old ships

Alcatraz (mentioned elsewhere)

Coit Tower

Check out Pac Bell Park (I mean SBC Park) (Whoops, name changed again, ATT Park), home of the San Francisco Giants.

The temporarily relocated California Academy of Sciences on Howard Street.

The view from Twin Peaks at night.

The SF Zoo.

And of course the world famous Golden Gate Bridge.

For a nice day trip, check out Angel Island, otherwise, take the Bay Cruise.

Just a few thoughts.I'm flying to San Francisco in October, can anyone recommend eating, places, things to do?
You won't have any trouble finding things to do and places to eat. It's just like every where else you go.
Being a long lost Californian, and San Francisco being my favorite city in the world, let me tell you there are a million things to do in that city! The Wharf will entertain you gastronomically and spiritually...try Lou's for the music and Scoma's right behind it for the best lobster ever... I wish I was there to be your guide.

Chinatown

North Beach...the cable cars...oh my God I want to go!I'm flying to San Francisco in October, can anyone recommend eating, places, things to do?
I don't think you'll have much trouble but like everyone else has suggested...Alcatraz you have to do. It's so eerie and the audio tour keeps you interested. Fishermans Wharf if you like fish....but even if you don't, check out the sour dough bread. Chinatown coz it's packed full of souvenir shops. Get on a bus coz it's an interesting and hysterical experience. In my case it was anyway. So much to see and do man. You'll love it.
do Alcatraz(book in advance), go over the golden gate bridge in an old fire truck(www.fireenginetours.com), do fishermans wharf, go down Lombard StreetI'm flying to San Francisco in October, can anyone recommend eating, places, things to do?
OMG Scala's Bistro is the ebest restuarant ever and i can recommend their steak. It isn't unreasonably priced for what you get and so worth every penny.

Here is the website: http://www.scalasbistro.com/index.html which tells you where it is.

Here is the website for the menu: http://www.scalasbistro.com/menus/scalas鈥?/a> to show you the prices and what they cook.

Hope this helps.
You looking for places in the sky, not many I'm afraid.
You definitely need to go to The Franciscan Restaurant at the world famous Fisherman's Wharf.

I've also given you a link to find other hot spots in the area. Enjoy your trip!
See the theater production "Beach Blanket Babylon". It's been in production for over twenty years and takes current affairs and San Francisco issues to the stage.
you are going to have so much fun in san francisco you definetly should go to the following places

1.golden gate bridge

2.fisherman's wharf

3. 49ers game

4.twin peaks

5.san francisco zoo

6.alcatraz tour
fishermans wharf is good. alcatraz is unmissable and its cheap. i just got on a boat, no booking but that was in november. the cable car is fun . take a trip along market street..you really wont need to ask what to do where to go etc, its such a lovely city. i know you will enjoy it
Have a drink at "The Top of the Mark", it's a bar at the top of the Mark Hopkins hotel. Awsome view! The drinks will be a bit pricey and it's fancy so you'll have to dress nice.

Take a boat out to Alcatraz. You can sign up for the boat at Pier 39, you may need to sign up a day in advance. It's pretty cheap.

Chinatown is kinda fun cause they have such weird stuff there.

The Tonga Room in the Fairmont Hotel is kinda fun too, it has rain and lightning and thunder inside and has a little lake with a boat on it where the band plays.

About an hour north of SF is Napa, that's always a fun place to go and wine taste. If you go there I highly suggest you drop in to one of the spas and take a mud bath. I did that a couple years ago, it was really really cool.
for the best food in sf try the house of prime rib and/or crustaceans, these are 2 fantastic places to eat.
The Yea area is the ****. Go to The Black Cat on Broadway in the city. It is full of humor a drag queen will be the hostess. And you will be served by some of the funniest guy people in the world but it is all in good fun.
