Exciting things to do in San Francisco/Bay Area?

My friend is coming to visit The Bay Area, since she has been living in New York, and we want to do something really exciting to commemorate her visit.

To give an example of exciting, we wanted to go White Water Rafting, but we couldn't find anything near or cheap enough.

So what could we do that would be super exciting? :) maybe in the vicinity of 1-2 hours away from SF, and under 40 bucksExciting things to do in San Francisco/Bay Area?
For under $40, you can rent a kayak or mountain bike for a couple hours.

- Blazing Saddles offers bike rentals for self-guided tours of the city.

- For kayaking, Belvedere and Ayala Cove (Tiburon) are nice places to paddle around if you have some experience. They are protected inlets with lots of scenery and reasonably calm waters. Beginners should consider the Mission Bay area as well. It is a completely urban course, and therefore, not quite as scenic. But it is very safe.

As you have noted, some of the more exciting sports are very expensive. Or they require professional supervision. Horseback riding will set you back at least $75 an hour. And hang gliding costs around $300 per flight. Wind surfing and sailing are a big deal in San Francisco (anything wind related really). Unfortunately, they are also prohibitively expensive.Exciting things to do in San Francisco/Bay Area?
