i think most ppl gave you a pretty complete list of top 10 things to do in sf. just wanted to mention equinox, the revolving restaurant on top of hyatt regency. the view is spectacular. you want to go a little before the sun sets so you can see the day view %26amp; the night view. dinner is a little pricy, $60-80, so if cost is a concern, you might want to go there after hours for dessert or drinks. definitely worth it!
Alcatraz! You take a ferry out to Alkatraz Island and tour the Prison it's pretty cool. but I would buy tickets online before you go. and get the headphones! What are the top 10 things to do in San Francisco?

20 years in SF.What are the top 10 things to do in San Francisco?
Golden Gate Bridge--if you take the bay cruise, you'll go out underneath it; pretty cool.

Fisherman's Wharf is very touristy and kind of tacky, but at the end of it is Ghirardelli Square, which has some nice shops.

Same with Pier 39, very touristy.

Ride a cable car. Don't get it at the Powell and Market end, it's too crowded. If you take the California street line you still get a nice view and less people. Plus, it ends at Embarcadero Center, four complexes of very cool stores, restaurants and movie theatre.

Take Geary out to the ocean. On the way back, visit Clement Street (between around 24th Ave and Arguello), an Asian section of town with great Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants.

Our Chinatown is very similar to other Chinatowns, but if you've never seen one, it's pretty interesting. Plus, it's small (as are all the neighborhoods).

Drive up to the top of Twin Peaks for a fabulous view.

Here's a website about the different neighborhoods:

Cha Cha Cha in the Haight is a great Caribbean restaurant.

The best Chinese I've had is at Erik's on Church Street in Noe Valley.

Bombay Curry House in the Marina is excellent.

Greens Cafe in Fort Mason Center (in the Marina) has the best vegetarian food in the Bay Area. Plus, it's right on the water with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge as you eat. (Plus, if you want to see some great improv, BATS Improv's theater is right next door.) http://improv.org/

Have fun!
ok i dont know how old you are but im a 25 yr old female and i lived in sf for 3 months and did everything touristy.

in my opinion-

*if you like modern art, SFMOMA is incredible

*fisherman's wharf definately, some good seafood resturants and pier 39 (a touristy boardwalk with shops and food)

*north beach is a great nieghboorhood with great bars and italian food

and i definately recommend GOLDEN GATE PARK no one else said it so i definately wanted to include it. theres alot to do there:

paddle boat on stowe lake

museum

japanese tea garden

and MORE

and at the end is SUNSET BEACH gorgeous beach (im from the east coast and watching the sunset over the ocean was a treat for me)

OH OH chinatown is really nice tooo. the beginning is on Bush st.

japantown is even cooler tho!

HAVE FUN i love san fran %26lt;3
Ten things to do-- but in no particular order

10. Catch a ball game at ATT park. If you can, get a seat upstairs. The view of the bay is nice. Wear sunscreen, even if its cloudy out. You will burn!

9. Ride the cable car...

8. Ride it to china town! Go to china town before 11:30 am and find a dim sum place. Dim sum is a traditional chinese "brunch" where you eat little dumplings and drink tea. Its sort of like Spanish Tapas, or like Sushi where you pay per each little "serving", ranging from $1.10 to $3.

7. Visit North Beach and also St. Peter %26amp; Paul Church

6. Visit Pier 39, see the sealions, visit the aquarium and eat at one of the seafood restaurants

5. Visit Alcatraz

4. Visit Haight district... home to the hippies

3. Shop in the Union Square area

2. Go to the Castro Distict... the gay %26amp; lesbian area. They have great coffee houses and shops there!

1. If you run out of things to do, drive up to Napa! The wine country is beautiful and its an easy 1 hour drive. Drive up the "winery row" and sample your favorites!
Go north accross the Golden Gate Bridge take a left (check a map for higway #) It is a short drive to Muir Woods. And it is a beautiful place, if you haven't seen the Coastal Redwood trees you have to check it out. Be sure to check out Sacilido, too. It has a beautiful view of San Francisco and the bay.
pier 39 alcatraz japanese garden wax museum (fishwharf ...someone said it) oakland baseball game
I live very close to San Fransico and I would sugest:

The Golden Gate Bridge (walking across seems cheesy but is cool and fun)

The Zoo is cool if you like that stuff

The Art Musuems are also very cool and you should try to visit a couple

The Alcatraz Island / Prison the tour is very interesting

Fisherman's Wharf

The Wax Musuem is really cool

Those are the major things I can think of. I will edit if I 'm reminded of more. I hope you enjoy your visit.

The Ferry Building as plenty of little places that are terrific, including Taylor's Refresher home of the BEST burgers in the Bay Area. The Hyde Street Bistro is good. I mentioned the Beach Chalet. If you like Thai food try Khan Toke Thai on Geary Street. If money is no object try Gary Danko's or the Fifth Floor or Jardinier. Too many to list!!
