Free things to do in San Francisco?

My husband and I are headed to San Francisco this weekend for a wedding and are spending the day in the city. Of course, we're also strapped for cash.

We're looking for free things to do in the town that are fun for a couple. Maps and websites help. :) If anyone knows of good ideas and how to GET said places, where to park, how to get in, that kind of thing, it would help immensely as we're not from the area.

Thanks!Free things to do in San Francisco?
The Chinese Cultural Center, Cable Car Museum, walk across the Golden Gate Bridge, The San Francisco Botanical Gardens in Golden Gate Park, and drive down the crookedest street in the world, Lombard Street.

Here are websites with more information:

Getting to S.F. Botanical Gardens: Muni's N Judah stops at Irving St and Ninth Avenue. Walk into the park at Ninth Ave. The entrance is on your left.

Anna,

Take a look at our San Francisco Events Calendar. It's full of things to do in San Francisco, and there are usually some free and cheap ones listed. We maintain listings of all kinds of fun and interesting events going on in the San Francisco area. You can sort it by category and by date. New events are being added all the time so make sure you check back before your trip.

Have a great weekend!
If you take that costal road South, (the one that runs in front of the zoo and then the Skyline exit, you will come to a place called Fort Funston. It used to be an old missle base. It's current attraction is that it sits on top of a cliff, hundreds of feet above the beach and is a local, favorite hang gliding site. When the wind is onshore, flyers can, literally, step off the cliff edge and they get instant lift. Hang gliders can drift back and forth, along the cliff edge and, in some cases, can actually hover, within a few yards of spectators. There is even nice viewing platform set up, just a few feet away from the launching ramp. It is possible for spectators to actually have conversations with the flyers as they drift by.

Be sure to bring your camera.

Ms. Bell gave you some great pointers.

One thing that is free and never fails to entertain is to visit Coit Tower on top of Telegraph hill. The tower interior contains some amazing WPA murals and the view from the top of the hill is amazing. When you are done viewing the murals take the Filbert Street Steps on the east side of the hill to the Embarcadero and walk along Herb Caen Way to the Ferry Building.

If you like walking tours check out city guides they offer over 100 different free walking tours of the City.

walk across the Golden Gate bridge! take jackets...the wind is intense.....but you will be rewarded with great views of the city (if its golden sun will shine on you)

I know you said "free", not "cheap"....but I love me some dim sum in Chinatown...Great Eastern rocks! We got full for about $17/head (couple folks even had beers)

and hey, you say "park"? are you renting a car? seriously not advised in SF, especially if you are on budget, parking is a royal pain and expensive as all get out!
