What are the best things to do in San Francisco in August?

My husband and I are going to San Francisco the last week of August. What are the must see places? Best places to eat?What are the best things to do in San Francisco in August?
That's a really good answer above. I just wanted to add that it may be quite cold and foggy (or nice and warm). So pack layers, including some warm clothes! Have fun!



One more tip - I love walking the Filbert Street Steps, down the back of Telegraph Hill behind Coit Tower. This is an amazing neighborhood of old Victorians that are on a wooden staircase and not accessible by car. Unique and so charming!What are the best things to do in San Francisco in August?
Well, it depends on what you are interested. San Francisco is a very diverse city....there are plenty of things that will interest anybody....For starters there are several museums that you might find interesting, there are the beaches and parks, Golden Gate Park is the largest in the city with several things you can do that will keep you busy for days....The Wharf and the Piers are something you shouldn't miss you can do a Bay Cruise wherein you can visit Alcatraz and Angel Island. If you are athletic, you can even rent bike to go over the golden gate bridge and have lunce in Sausalito. Hmm....if you are into the bohemian scene...Haight and Ashbury is a wonderful street to visit this is where the Hippie scene all started....Little Italy is right next to chinatown wonderful restaurants like the stinking rose and beppo di buca are wonderful italian restaurants that you should not miss...The slanted door is a great place to have dinner though it is on the pricey side but the ambiance is great....blowfish is a nice place to have sushi and so is raw....clement street and valencia st. are nice to stroll on to see the local scene....you can also do the tourist stuff like riding the cable cars visiting fort point and everything else....enjoy it all but get out there and walk.
