What are some cool, unique things to do in San Francisco?

Besides the touristy stuff, I want something off the beaten path. What are some cool, unique things to do in San Francisco?
Go window-shopping in Union Square and listen to the street musicians. Go to the St. Francis Hotel in Union Square and ride the glass elevators. (They're free!) Walk through the Mission District and look at the murals on the buildings (and get a burrito!) Walk through Chinatown (yeah, I know that's touristy but it's cool!) Go to the new De Young museum and up the elevator to the tower. Walk through the Haight Ashbury and look at vintage clothes (or just enjoy the funky atmosphere), and if you dare, climb to the top of Buena Vista Park for a view. Rent a rowboat at Stow Lake in GG Park and row around the island. Hike to the top of the island (Strawberry Hill) for a view. Go to Marina Green and fly a kite. Ever been to Fort Point? Thats pretty cool. Get a pizza at Thomaso's on Kearny (oldest pizzeria on the west coast!) or a calzone at Georgio's on Clement. Go see an IMAX movie at the Metreon--biggest screen in the western hemisphere! (The Metreon Center is not nearly as crowded as it once was, more fun to walk around these days). While you're there, walk under the fountain in Yerba Buena Park next door. See the Camera Obscura near the Cliff House, and while you're there walk around the ruins of the old Sutro Baths. Did you know there are hiking trails through the Presidio? Visit the Point Bonita Lighthouse in Marin Headlands--in fact if you've never been to Marin Headlands that's something you should definitely explore. On Sundays in Summer there are great free concerts at Sigmund Stern Grove. Go for dim sum on a Sunday morning (Yet Wah on Geary is good).

Well, I'm sure there's a lot more, but that ought to keep you busy for a while. What are some cool, unique things to do in San Francisco?

The one great thing about the Bay Area (SF) is that there is a large body of water that is somewhat shielded from the full strength of the ocean currents, allowing for my types of water activites in a VERY large body of water with views of the city and bridges, here are few things you could do - and wont cost you too much:

For instance, you can rent a boat (motor) or sailboat near the bay and go sailing - its actually REALLY fun and you can get a lot of speed. If you are up for it, you can even lean back and be so close to the water that your shirt (if you have one on) will graze the water.

You can also rent a kayak if you would like more steering ability - both are not too expensive and if you go often you can get discounts.

Also, if you go to the place where tourists go to get to alcatraz, there is also a boat that takes you to Angel Island, where the immigrants used to have to stay before they were let into San Francisco (if they even made it to SF). Its a nice place for a picnic, a nice boat ride and view of the bay, and you can walk and hike around and see the history of the island - kinda cool seeing SF and Oakland from island, very isolated but so close to the city.

Hope this helps - I also wish the water on the westcoast was warmer - its a shame because our coastline and waves are so much nicer than anywhere else in the US (my opinion)
This is about an hour's drive from SF, but you could take a drive down Hwy 1 along the coast, have lunch in Princeton-by-the-Sea at one of the seafood places at the marina, then go further south about 30 minutes to Ano Nuevo State Beach - this is one of 2 reserves specifically for Elephant Seals - big, 2-ton critters who sun themselves at Ano Nuevo. This would take about 2 hours to take the short hike and look around. You could then go to Duarte's Tavern in Pescadero, a few miles away and have a great meal - they're known for their homemade pies - or you could drive to the Bonnie Doon winery for wine-tasting of some good wine made with a sound sense of humor.

This would eat up most of the day, but would be a nice thing to do if you want to get out of the city for a bit.
