What are good things to do in San Francisco has a tourist?

Want to go there like 4-5 days but dont know if there is enought to do..What are good things to do in San Francisco has a tourist?
Thanks for choosing San Francisco for vacation! There's always plenty to do in "the city" visiting many different ethnic neighborhoods, to the finest seafood on the west coast.

Usually, the typical tourist would visit these locations or do the following:

Ride the Cable Cars

Visit Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf

Eat lunch in Chinatown

Shop in Downtown (Union Square and the New Westfield Shopping Center)

Visit the Golden Gate Bridge

Visit a museum or aquarium

Take a Bay Cruise

Ride the ferry to Sausalito

Visit the ethnic neighborhoods: North Beach (Italian), Japantown (Japanese), Chinatown (Chinese), etc.

For something out of the ordinary, try some of these neighborhood areas for shopping and great food:

9th Avenue and Irving

West Portal

Japantown

Clement St. between Arguello and 6th avenue

Mission Bay

Geary Blvd. between 19th and 22nd avenues

Here's some tips and things you should bring along:

Camera

Guidebook (ask for a free one at the Visitor's Bureau)

Cash and enough pocket change for bus fare ($1.50) and Cable Car fare ($5) or buy a pass.

Purchase a "City Pass" (comes with 7 days worth of transit rides and ticket access to various tours and museums)

AAA membership card (discounts to restaurants and shops)

Don't drive your car around the city, parking in downtown and the Wharf is very expensive.

Lots to see and lots to do, that's San Francisco for you! What are good things to do in San Francisco has a tourist?
See the Golden Gate Bridge, ride around on the streetcar.
Have you heard of the old song "I left my heart in San Francisco"? Well, this is a lovely city. Many interesting things to do for varied tastes/interests. I will now list some things that I had enjoyed about that city in the past. Now, I love it so much I visited it twice and would visit it again in the future if I can spare the time and money. Now these were places I saw and things done in 1980 and 1982. That's a long time ago but I am sure many things are still there being part of San Francisco.

Here's the list:

1)Golden gate bridge: forms a good background for your photos

2) Lombard Street: the crookedest street in the world!

3)Fisherman's Wharf for nice seafood.

4)Chinatown: to immerse yourself in American Chinese environment and eat good Chinese food!

5)buy some famous Ghiradelli chocolates. I think you can visit the factory there too.

6)ride a cable car,enjoy the experience!

7)take a tour to the infamous Alcatraz prison, now disused and a tourist site.

8) take a tour from San Francisco to Yosemite Park - now, this is worth the trip!Waterfalls and mountains.

9) take a tour to see the coast at Monterey with the twisty Cypress trees- another good place for photographers and artists. Beautiful scenery!

You also see seals along the coast.

You might still see homes of movie stars. I saw Clint Eastwood's home. Don't know if he still stays there or sold it. (It's been many years)

This tour also includes Carmel-by-the-sea.

You can see the famous Pebble Beach golfing area.

10)Visit quaint Sausalito, across the bay from San Francisco

11)the San Francisco skyline itself is very interesting and also the Coit tower: you can see these in movies as background of scenes.

12)At the grounds of the Academy of Sciences, see the monument to Francis Scott Key, the guy who wrote the National Anthem "The Star Spangled Banner"

13)See giant redwood trees in Muir woods. Now these are the very tall variety , not the wide trunk ones, which are elsewhere in California.

That's about all I have in memory.

Take it all in a leisure mode so you will not tire out. What are good things to do in San Francisco has a tourist?
china town is cool, but all the shops basically sell the same stuff, but all is priced differently, so shop around. it's a good place to get souvenirs for friends/family.

alcatraz is fun, go on the night tour and wear warm clothes for the boat ride over.

and if you have the time/money, check out six flags marine world in vallencia. look at fast food restaurants along the way for discount flyers for it.
