1) Would it be best to drive to those places or take public transportation? Doe the cable car go to those places? Does anyone know the price of parking around those areas?
2) What other places do you suggest going to for a family with teenagers? We enjoy tourist places %26amp; tourist shops. Any ideas?
Thank you for your answers! They are greatly appreciated!San Francisco Transportation and things to see?
Leave the car in Burlingame! Take Bart to and from the city. Parking will run you $30-40 for the day especially in the tourist areas.
Driving in the city can be confusing for visitors, parking is difficult and expensive so forgoing the car is a good idea. Muni offers multi day passes that are good for buses, trolley, light rail and the cable cars [unique experience but $5 per ride].

As for things to do here is my Must Do San Francisco
1. Ride a Cable Car, the only moving historical landmark in the world. Stop off at the Cable Car Barn at Washington and Mason to get a full understanding of this unique form of transportation. Riding the Powell Hyde line will allow you to see Lombard Street the famous crooked street.
2. Visit Alcatraz, this former prison is the most popular destination in San Francisco. The bay cruise to and from the island will give you the opportunity to see the skyline from the water a unique perspective. It is wise to purchase tickets before you arrive as tours are often sold out http://www.alcatrazcruises.com
3. Visit Coit Tower, Beautiful murals inside, impressive bay view from the tower or Pioneer Park at the base. Then descend Telegraph hill via the Filbert Steps on the east side of the park for a unique view of how folks on Telegraph Hill live, more beautiful bay views and the chance to hear and see the famous Parrots of Telegraph Hill.
4. Golden Gate Bridge, not just a feat of engineering, this 1.7 mile span offers incredible views of The City, the bay and the Pacific ocean. Be sure to visit Ft. Point under the bridge for a different view of this San Francisco Icon.
5. Explore Golden Gate Park, this large urban park can consume a whole day. The Japanese Tea Garden, California Academy of Science, the DeYoung Art Muesum, the Arboretum, Bison Paddock, and Paddle boats are all worth a look and watch the sun go down over the Pacific over a drink or dinner at the Beach Chalet.
6. Chinatown, the most densely populated portion of San Francisco offers an abundance of shopping, food and unique architecture found outside of Asia. The best place to buy souvenirs to take home to friends and family.
7. North Beach, traditionally the Italian section of the city which has no beach but abounds in quaint shops, great restaurants and The City鈥檚 best coffee options.
8. Civic Center, the largest collection of Beaux Arts buildings in the US. Home to San Francisco City Hall, with a dome larger than the US Capital, the Asian Art Museum and the Modern San Francisco Library with its San Francisco History Room housing an eclectic collection of city artifacts and photographs.
9. Yerba Buena Gardens, this urban park is located near the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of The African Diaspora, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the contemporary Jewish Museum, and the Metreon, it will keep you entertained for hours.
10. Twin Peaks, see The City and the bay spread out at your feet. Especially captivating at night when the lights seem to go on for ever.San Francisco Transportation and things to see?
1) Well seeing that your staying in Burlingame. You might want to stay near a Caltrain Station or have access to a car that can get you to the Milbrae Bart Station or the Caltrain Station, so you can get to Downtown on the train. You can get to downtown SF on Caltrain and BART. From there you can catch busses to go to your destination. (Pretty easy to get to) but In Burlingame, its pretty hard to find public transit from the suburban part of the area.
2)Try heading to Alacatraz and Angel Island. You can spend a whole day there. Also Golden Gate Park is pretty nice. Another day there.San Francisco Transportation and things to see?
I would take public transportation. If your renting a car prepare to spend about 25.00 to 40.00 to park overnight. Parking is at a premium since the city is not that big. Don't know if BART ( bay area rapid transit) is anywhere near Burlingame but go to the BART website. You can get a Citypass that will give you unlimited bus transportation depending how long your in the city. Try not to miss Alcatraz and Golden Gate park. A great website is tripadvisor.com. The cable car lines to go through some of those areas but lines are long but it's fun to try it once. The teens will love SF!!San Francisco Transportation and things to see?
1. Take public transportation. You can take BART to downtown (Powell Street) and then cable car or F-Market streetcar to the places you mentioned.
2. Union Square is another good place.
Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf and Ghirardelli Square are probably the most tourist heavy places in the city--street parking is hard to come by and garages are pretty expensive (I don't know the exact price off the top of my head, but at least $10) You can take the cable car from the Powell Street BART station to Hyde Street (which is a short walk to all of the attractions listed above).
Chinatown is closer to the center of the financial district, and easily reached by BART. Street parking may be doable if you don't go during a weekend.
Other places you might enjoy:
Golden Gate Park (free) and the California Academy of Sciences, the deYoung Museum and the Tea Garden (all located in the park but unfortunately not free).
Sausalito/the Marin Headlands/Muir Woods/Mt Tamalpais
Berkeley (Telegraph Ave is always fun)
Union Square
Walk or bike across the Golden Gate Bridge
