What are some uniquely fun/cool things to do in San Francisco?

I don't want any of the cliche things to do like Alcatraz/Wharf. But more of what hidden things only locals would know. I'll be there the weekend of August 9th to the 11th. Clubs,Restaurants,Shows, etc all suggestions would be appreciated. What are some uniquely fun/cool things to do in San Francisco?
There hasn't been a mime in Union Square for about twenty years.

Check out the best improv in town; this company has been voted Best Comedy, Best First Date Spot, and recently, Best Theatre Company in San Francisco (edging out stalwarts like ACT). They have shows every Fri/Sat night except around Christmas:

It's kind of goofy, but go rent a paddle boat on Stowe Lake.

For some of the best Chinese food in town, Eric's on Church Street in Noe Valley.

If you are a plant person, I highly recommend the Arboretum in Golden Gate Park. See if you can hook up with a docent tour.

The restaurant on the top of St. Francis Hotel on Union Square has great (free) food at happy hour with a fabulous view of the city.

For a great nosh with a New York flair, try David's Deli on Geary Street (across from the Curran Theatre).

There's a year-round ice skating rink on the roof of Moscone Convention Center. Plus there's a merry-go-round and bowling alley!

The Soko hardware store in Japantown is a fabulous place for odd and eclectic souvenirs and tools. What are some uniquely fun/cool things to do in San Francisco?
Don't know if you never been to the Coit Tower The tower offers fantastic views of San Francisco including the Golden Gate Bridge, the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park ("Aquatic Park"), Alcatraz, Pier 39, Angel Island, Treasure Island, the Bay Bridge, Russian Hill, the Financial District, Lombard Street, and Nob Hill.

North Beach North Beach- home of the Beat Generation, San Francisco's Little Italy and the city's strip club mecca.

Established during the Barbary Coast days of the Gold Rush (1848-1858), North Beach actually was a beach. Originally, the city's northeast shoreline extended only to what is today Taylor and Francisco streets.

If you like a list of all nightclubs go to http://www.discovering-sanfrancisco.com

you'll also find all the restaurant's bars must see sites transportation and any of the festivals that are going on in the city.and much much more. What are some uniquely fun/cool things to do in San Francisco?
First, I'd tell you to travel on foot most of the time--you'll see so much more that way! If you like art, there are a lot of galleries to see downtown (around Geary), some hidden up staircases of unassuming buildings. Not to mention the Museum of Modern Art, which has a nice restaurant to lunch at and a great gift shop, so check their website, sfmoma.com, for events. Also, there are gardens across the street. (If you want to go a little out of your way, the Legion of Honor has more classical art.)

I'm not huge on restaurants, but I can tell you that Neiman Marcus sells a mean tin of chocolate chip cookies (second floor), and next door is a teeny tiny nut shop that's been there forever that's fun to visit.

Watch to see if there's a mime in Union Square...I'm not sure if he/they come anymore, but perhaps.

Slim's is my favorite club in the city. Little place, great shows. See slims-sf.com for details. The Fillmore is also a great place. It's fun just to look at all the posters they have on the walls inside.

I know Chinatown is a destination, but checkout Japantown as well. It's near The Fillmore (walking distance). It has great food (and crepes!) and shops, and fun photobooths as well, especially if you're coming with friends. The large Kinokuniya bookstore has nice souvenirs and gifts.
