I am planning a trip to San Francisco around the first part of June and wanted to experience something great while I'm there. What would be the top 5 things to do while im in San Francisco?What are some good places to visit while in San Francisco? (restaurants, shopping, interesting things)?

Really there is so much to see and do in San Francisco you can live here for years and never see it all.What are some good places to visit while in San Francisco? (restaurants, shopping, interesting things)?
See the SF the tourist phamphlets don't mention. See Ocean Beach, Golden Gate Park, The Presidio, Lands End, Lake Merced and the nearby Ocean Cliffs, walk the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin, see the Marin Headlands and Mt. Tam...shop or eat in Sausalito. The places I mention are all in clean fresh air, without the crowds and danger and expense of the usual Downtown, Fisherman's Wharf, Cable Cars, etc BS. Do not visit the Tenderloin or Downtown unless you like to see about 5000 people lying around on the street in various stages of consciousness, including dead. Check out Pier 39 down by Fisherman's Wharf. There are shops and restaurants down there if you want to do some shopping and eating. Also, have a great sundae at Ghiradelli's also located near Fisherman's Wharf. Take a ride on the cable cars (they are my favourite), as they are a very old landmark and a great way to get around in S.F. Also visit the cable car museum and barn. There is information there about how the cars operate and some of the older cars that were operated. If you want, check out the China Town Area. The top 5 things I suggest are as followings:-

1) Rent a car and drive along the 49 miles scenic Drive. The drive passes at least 50 major attractions.

2) Visit the Haight-Ashbury street.Be back to the 60's year interesting blend of hippies as well as yuppies and sightseeing visitors.

3) Visit the Castro district where are gay neighborhood,is a lively area characterized by hip cafe fashionable cloth stores and restored Victorian homes.

4)The Twin Peak,having a bird view over the city after dark.

5) Walk or drive down the world's most twisted street at Lombard-Hyde (Don't try be like the James Bond movie).

One more suggestion is take a visit to the nearby Standford University and the world's famous shopping mall there,you'll satisfy your shopping needs.
