Fun things to do in San Francisco:
Hike the Marin Headlands that look down on the Golden Gate bridge. It is only a half day hike, it is stunningly beautiful and the views are breathtaking.
Walk across the golden gate bridge about mid-day. You will be able to see the fog in the distance and enjoy a view not to be seen anywhere else on the planet.
Take the Sausalito ferry (about $10) from the Pier in San Francisco over to Sausalito for dinner and walking through this uber-artsy town. Take the ferry back for a spectacular view of the city at night.
Alcatraz. Book early, as it sells out early in the day every day. Try and buy these tickets in advance so you can get the discount. The boat ride alone is worth the trip. If you enjoy history, you will LOVE the tour of Alcatraz itself.
Get to Chinatown and walk and shop the district and be sure to eat at one of the four places that have lines out the front door at lunch time. None of the great places are expensive, only the good places have lines in front of them.
Head out to see the Cliff House perched over the Pacific Ocean. It is a visit to the Goldrush days and offers a unique view. Take a walk along the promenade and play with the mechanical coin games.
Head to North beach for a night out of walking and shopping with the locals along the Columbus and drop into any one of the fine restaurants at any price point you select. They are all fabulous.
Stop into the museums all over the city, visit Ansel Adams Studio/Museum.What are the best not so obvious fun things to do in San Francisco?
