What are some fun things to see in San Francisco between Union Sq. Golden Gate Park?

I want to shop at Union Squ. in the morning and then walk down to the Park and see Amoeba Music store. But what are some good things to do on the way there? What are some fun things to see in San Francisco between Union Sq. Golden Gate Park?
THE TENDERLOIN:

Immediately west of Union Square is the Tenderloin. This is a high crime neighborhood. And the vast majority of visitors bypass the Tenderloin on their way to Civic Center (either on a bus or underground train). The immigrants from Southeast Asia and the Middle East who call the Tenderloin home would assert that while the neighborhood is undoubtedly impoverished, it is nowhere near as dangerous as the media suggests. If you choose to walk, you will find that the area is lively. But it has few sights as such. Alongside the grim housing blocks and seedy clubs, there are some interesting theatre facades, thrift shops, places of worship, and sandwich joints.

CIVIC CENTER:

The main draw for tourists at Civic Center is the fantastic Asian Art Museum. Although many of the government buildings are also of historical significance. City Hall was where Mayor George Moscone and Harvey Milk were assassinated in 1978. It has also appeared in numerous movies under various guises. Two major treaties of the modern era were signed at the War Memorial Opera House: the United Nations charter in 1945 and the agreement establishing the West's alliance with Japan in 1953.

The museum is open 10 AM to 5 PM Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is $12 for the permanent collection and more for exhibitions. Free tours of City Hall are available at 10 AM, Noon, and 2 PM Monday through Friday. The Opera House has similar public tours on Monday only (same hours).

HAYES VALLEY:

From Civic Center, you can walk along Hayes Street towards Alamo Square. This area was as depressed as the Tenderloin not so long ago. But it has been thoroughly transformed in recent years. The Hayes Valley area has become a trendy place to shop and eat. Bistros and boutiques catering to the ever changing demands of young urban professionals are the norm.

Alamo Square is where you will see those Victorian row houses that are ubiquitous on postcards of San Francisco. None of them are actually open to the public (for that, you have to go to Pacific Heights). But tourists can try to see who can spot the house in "Full House" first. Victorians weren't always considered high class. These houses were originally sold for $3,500; now they are worth more than a million each.

THE HAIGHT

From Alamo Square, it is a short walk to the Panhandle and the edge of the Haight District. Aside from the dense trees in Buena Vista Park, the rest of the Haight is mostly about nostalgia for the 1960s. The smoke shops, restaurants, and even Amoeba Music are really vestiges of a different era.

Golden Gate Park itself is one of the great jewels of San Francisco and one of the best urban parks around. You could easily spend the entire day here. For tourists, there are museums, gardens, nature trails, lakes, and beach access. For sportsmen, there is a golf course, equestrian facilities, archery range, soccer fields, tennis courts, and much more. What are some fun things to see in San Francisco between Union Sq. You can go through the Haight and check out all the shops there. Just avoid the bad parts of town because they're pretty shady. Here's an interactive map that might give you some ideas.
