My sister and her hubby are visiting from PA and I really really want different things to do besides the usual things. No broadway strip clubs, please..LOL.. but Teatro Zinzanni is terrific, and was wondering if there are other hidden treasures in San Francisco (or the bay area) that I could explore? What are some of the most fun and entertaining things to do in San Francisco, not shopping and touristy things
Teatro ZinZanni is great, but a little pricey. Sometimes Goldstar Events (a great website) has half price tickets depending on when your relatives come. Usually the half price tickets are for mid-week performances.
Another great thing we locals do is take advantage of happy hours in our local restaurants and bars. A number of bars have $2 entrees and micro-brews on Tuesdays (ie: City Tavern, Blue Light in the marina district). Circa restaurant (at Fillmore and Chestnut) has half price wine on Wednesdays. These are great places to feel like a local.
I also really enjoy taking a walk from Ghiradelli Suare / Fort Mason and follow the bay out towards the base of golden gate bridge. It's a great walk and you can people watch, see people's animals, see the mansions and it's something locals actually do.
You could also hike the stairs out on Lyon street near the presidio which takes you up through the middle of one of the fanciest neighborhoods in SF: Pacific Heights. You can climb the stairs and when you get to the top, you will be able to see the entire bay.
Another local spot is Sams Anchor cafe which is located in Tiburon. The locals take the ferry from the ferry building or fisherman's wharf across the bay for a nice outdoor brunch in the sunshine. What are some of the most fun and entertaining things to do in San Francisco, not shopping and touristy things
We took some relatives out to Fort Point...it's a pretty historical site....and the view of the Golden Gate Bridge is spectacular!

TAKE THEM TO CHINA TOWN AND TEACH THEM TO USE CHOP STICKS
My family loves to go to the Exploritorium each year and they are never disappointed! It has something for all ages. Half Moon Bay (1 hour away at most) has a great restaurant right on the coast made by rum smugglers that is fabulous! Open air seating with infinite blankets depending on the weather and a staff that loves to cater. Another great place is Pescadero, 1.5 hours down south that has a very old, and easy going way about it. Supersoup( artichoke) is wonderful. It is creamy, spicey and is a bellyfull if you're not careful. What are some of the most fun and entertaining things to do in San Francisco, not shopping and touristy things
