What are awesome things to do in san francisco's Japan-town?

i went for the first time a while back but i really didn't do much. i went to the shoping center and bought some CDs and some DOMO magnets lol. i wanna go again but im not sure where the cool places are. what things do you like to do when you go to japan town? What are awesome things to do in san francisco's Japan-town?
1) the Sushi Boat restaurant - good, inexpensive fresh sushi on revolving tiny boats! Get there when they open (11:00am) for best as well as freshest selection.

2) that huge japanese bookstore (Kanikura?). Check out the cool manga books and the very cool Japanese magazines. They started to carry more items like clothing and other small items from japan.

3) if you didn't eat at the sushi place, try the Sapporo Ramen noodle house- freshly made authentic japanese ramen... perfect if you're coming off having a cold or on a cooler day.

4) there's a huge japanese hardware store across from the Denny's restaurant outside the center. Check out all the fantastic items from japan. They have some really graet stuff there.

5) next to the AMC kabuki movie theater, there's a small japanese grocery store. Lots of japanese items- very fresh fish and veggies. It is rather expensive, but it's very cool to check out.

good luck, and I hope you enjoy your visit. What are awesome things to do in san francisco's Japan-town?
Give johnny ma best answer.

except kabooki theatre doesn't exist anymore. AMC is AWESOME movie theatre, its not in japan town tho

i used to live in San Fran. and i'm moving back in aug, but i remember japan town and its VERY small. its nothing like china town, i dont even really consider it a "town" more of a section. It's really nothing special, sad to say. I think it used to be bigger, but its like this square. Not much to do there. You dont feel immersed in Japanese culture, unlike china town, where your completely immersed. its sad that its so small i WISH it was bigger, but you can easily pass by it and it can go unnoticed.
There really aren't too many "awesome" things to do. As you noticed, there's a lot of shopping.

Here's some Yelp comments on shops and things to do:

I don't know if this is your cup of tea (heh), but I love to go to Soko Hardware on Post and Buchanan (the far east end of Japantown); there are some really odd and interesting tools and tschotkes there. What are awesome things to do in san francisco's Japan-town?

Take pictures, eat, drink, buy some good items and look at the junk items. Then go to someplace really interesting in SF,What are awesome things to do in san francisco's Japan-town?
