Above are good standard suggestions, but they're mostly "traditional touristy stuff", which it doesn't seem like you're going for. So here...
* Murals in the Mission district: http://www.precitaeyes.org/murals.html This site is far from complete, but it's a good starting point.
* Diego Rivera murals at
San Francisco Art Institute: http://www.sfai.edu/page.aspx?page=34
City College: http://www.riveramural.com/home.asp?lang鈥?/a>
The Beach Chalet: http://www.beachchalet.com/
City Club: http://www.cityclubsf.com/
* Peter %26amp; Paul Church: http://www.stspeterpaul.san-francisco.ca鈥?/a> Has a lot of really pretty icons, statues, mosaics, stained glass, etc... Even has these little maze-like rooms lit by candle light with some of the best statues/religious art in the city.
* The Tenderloin neighborhood is really interesting, and certainly the last thing most tourists want to see. Crack addicts, prostitutes, trannies, and any combination thereof. But also lots of art students, etc... The outer borders of the neighborhood especially have lots of great restaurants. Note: he more loaded and f**ked up someone is, the more fun they are to talk to.
* The Richmond neighborhood, particularly along Geary between about Park Presidio and 25th Ave is Russian central... some amazing markets (I particularly love Europa... pickled everything, really cheap imported candy, and they used to have Pushkin in the form of a children's book RIGHT NEXT to Russian porn... hilarious!). Gaspare's (Italian) at 20th and Geary has the best Pizza ever. Old World Market, almost right across the street (half a block down, but...) is also a great market. A few blocks down, Regina has tons of babushka dolls. Oh, and Evergreen pharmacy... it looks like a regular pharmacy, but inside it has the weirdest imported ****.
* The Palace of Fine Arts... Ohk, it's a total tourist trap, but some of the architecture is really pretty, and the lake has swans.
* If you happen to be here on a Friday night, Cafe International has a (usually) odd and eclectic open mic (turntablism on didjieridoo to old fat tranny prostitute reading poetry about her johns' c**ks).
* Legion of Honor, SFMOMA, and the Cartoon Art Museum are all great museums to check out, if you like museums.
* Exploratorium is like a big sciency playground. Designed for kids, but you'll find the majority of people there are teens to 30s. http://www.exploratorium.edu/
* Sushi Delight is LOL... right next to a karaoke bar, and they show footage of people making asses of themselves in the restaurant. Good sushi, too. http://www.sushidelight.net/
etc... That's pretty ambitious for 1 day. What should i do when I go to San Francisco?

I agree with the above, plus you must get a hot fudge sundae at the Ghiradelli chocolate factory, mmmmm.
Also the Modern Art Museum and the Legion of Honor are good for more arty activities.

Hope this helps
Check out the DeYoung Museum in Golden Gate Park and the Japanese Gardens or the Botanical Gardens while you're there. The Asian Art Museum downtown is great, too. It's right by City Hall, The Opera House and the main branch of the San Francisco Library - all worth exploring. Grace Cathedral is also a must-see. It's right by the Mark Hopkins Hotel, which has an amazing view of downtown from the top floor.
Have fun!!
Chinatown tourist shops have alot of intresting things to see not alot of sites to see in Chinatown but still worth visting. Just to warn ou teh streets are really crowed.
